Branding must start before you have your logo and business cards
designed –
it’s more than just developing your logo or corporate
ID, it’s about determining what sets you apart and how
you plan on hitting that important fact home with your
target market. In fact, utilizing a graphic designer's
skills will only be useful once you have defined what
makes your company different.
Branding is the most
powerful marketing tool your business has. Through
branding, you set your business apart from the crowd, and
draw attention to the unique characteristics you posses.
Branding or logo creation with creativity will make your
company memorable and attractive. Think about what it is
about yourself that you bring to your company that is
different than the norm of others who generally operate
in the same role/business as you.
List key traits that make your
company special.
At this point, don’t think about what
your customers want you to say, think about what is true
to you. Focus on your own style as the first step of
branding. Once you have defined your unique style and
your unique selling features, a target market will
automatically be selected.
When creating your brand, avoid blanketing statements,
such as “We provide excellent customer service”. You’re customers have
probably heard that line so many times that they no longer pay any
attention to it. Go one step further and define how you provide this
service. If you are doing something unique to provide excellent customer
service, describe that as part of your branding.
